GOVERNMENT PRINTING
AUTHORITY FOR NEW WORKS AT PETONE COMPLETION EXPECTED IN FOUR YEARS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 18. Government authority to start work on a new Government printery at Seaview, Petone, was given today by a Cabinet works sub-committee. The new building, of 203,000 square feet, will house administration, works administration, typesetting, process, composing and machine rooms, binding, cafeteria and staff facilities and engineering services. A portion of the old printery in the centre of Wellington will be retained. The Parliamentary unit and units for publishing stamps, tickets, plan printing and certain other publications will be kept there. Portions of the old building, erected in 1886 and 1895, are obsolete and are stated to be particularly liable to earthquake damage. It is estimated that the new building at Seaview will take four years to build. Among other decisions made by the sub-committee today was approval for the erection of a new primary school at Upper Hutt to cost £58,000.
