TRAINER’S LICENCES CANCELLED

CONDITIONAL PERMITS FOR A. B. HOLMES The New Zealand Trotting Conference has cancelled the present horseman’s and trainer’s licence held by A. B. Holmes. The conference announced this decision yesterday, stating that it had "considered the recent Court proceedings against Holmes.” Holmes is to be granted conditional licences for three months. He is to report to the Chief Stipendiary Steward at least once a week. The stipendiary stewards are to report on Holmes’s conduct during the probationary period. WAIMATE CLUB SECOND TOTALISATOR PERMIT SOUGHT Further representations are to be made by the Waimate Trotting Club for a second totalisator permit. An application made several years ago was unsuccessful. A decision was made at a special meeting of the club’s committee recently that the club’s application should be supported at a meeting of the Statutes Revision Committee in Parliament next Wednesday, when consideration will be given to applications from racing and trotting clubs for additional totalisator permits. The club will tonduct trials for maiden pacers at the Waimate racecourse on December 1. Races for trotters and improving pacers will be held. The president (Mr D. Keyes) and Messrs J. Corrigan, C. L. B. Corsbie, L. W. Davison, and K. Rutledge were appointed to discuss with the Waimate Racing Club future control of the racecourse. BURNS NIGHT TO START TODAY His horse would definitely start in the New Zealand Trotting Cup at Addington today, said G. McKendry, owner-trainer of Burns Night, when asked yesterday to comment on reports that the horse had broken down. Burns Night had injured a shoulder slightly on Wednesday last, but he had pulled up well after being jogged on Sunday and yesterday.
