CLERGYMEN’S MATCH AT ASHBURTON

Ministers of the Anglican Church from all parts of Canterbury took part in a cricket match at Ashburton yesterday, a team from North Canterbury and Christchurch beating South Canterbury and MidCanterbury by eight wickets. For the Northern team, R. A. Low made 20 in the first innings, his side being dismissed for 54. W. Heerdegen took two wickets for 6 runs, R. Williams two for 4, and J. Evans two for 17. In reply tne Southern team made 59 (Evans 20, I. L. Richards 15 not out, Heerdegen 13; A. Purchase five for 6, J. Perkins two for 6, R. Banbury two for 12). In the second innings the Southern team was dismissed for 40, W. Averill making 14, Heerdegen taking three for 3 and Evans two for 16. North went in, and with half an hour and eight wickets in hand, made the required 36 runs. A. Georgantis made 17 and Evans 16. R. Banbury took two for 2.

BANKS PENINSULA COMPETITION Although play was interrupted by rain, a further round of the Banks Peninsula Kinloch Cup cricket competition was completed on Saturday, Kaituna getting a first innings win from Le Bun's, and Combined winning on the first innings from United Bays. The top scorers for Kaituna were N. Allen (71), D. Turner (66), and O. Sutherland (36), out of 234 for seven wickets declared. Le Eon’s Bay was all out for J 47, N. Allen, who finished with five wickets for 36 runs, getting the last two Le Eon's Baj’ wickets in the last over of the game to avoid a draw. The top scorer for Le Eon's was M. Mclntosh (32), and Bowling for Le Bon’s, P. Stevens took two for 17.

Combined scored 84 (J. Willan 46 retired), in-reply to United’s 72 (T. Morten 48). For Combined, D. Macphail took three wickets for 3 runs and J. Williams three for 21, and for United, P. Waghorn took two for 16 and S. Waghorn one for 3.
