INDO-CHINA WAR

France Urged To Seek Cease Fire (Rec. 9 p.m.) PARIS, November 9. The annual congress of the Democratic Social Union of Resistance (U.D.S.R.)' last evening adopted a resolution urging the French Government to start negotiations to end the war in Indo-China.

The resolution was adopted by 402 votes to 337. The first version of the motion made the intention of the congress even clearer. It asked the Government to negotiate a cease fire in Indo-China without delay. Mr Rene Pleven, the Defence Minister, dissociated himself from the motion and abandoned the chairmanship of the party. He had been chairman for the last seven years. The election of his successor will be considered later.

The Indo-China resolution represented a victory for Mr Francois Mitterand, Mr Pleven’s chief rival within the party. Mr Mitterand resigned from the Government a few weeks

ago in protest against the Government’s policy jn the French overseas territories.

U.D.S.R. stands between the Popular Republicans and the Socialists. It has 25 deputies, but plays a key role in the National Assembly.
