AMBASSADORS AT PARTY
(Rec. 10 p.m.) MOSCOW, November 7. A Big Five party, with clinking glasses and no politics took place in Moscow tonight when the British, United States, French and Communist Chinese Ambassadors sat with the Soviet Foreign Minister (Mr Molotov) and downed toasts for “peace and understanding.” The party was held to celebrate the anniversary of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution. Thousands of guests .were present, but the Big Five group broke away for dinner at a table set aside for them. •
Mr Lazar’ Kaganovich, a Deputy Premier, proposed a toast “to those who help peace and understanding.”
The British Ambassador clinked glasses with him and said: “Very'good, if only we could talk to each other.” As each guest rose to propose the toast a Foreign Ministry interpreter standing behind Mr Molotov translated.
The reception was described by diplomats as “the biggest turn-ont for years.” They were all impressed by the cordiality of their Soviet hosts.
