TRICKY WICKETS AND SLOW OUTFIELDS Wickets were tricky and outfields slow on Saturday when the second round of the Suburban Cricket Association’s competitions -was concluded. W.M.C. beat Matchless in the first innings by one run. Beckenham, which had a lead of six runs on lost five wickets for 21 in the second innings when requiring 91 for an outright win. Six wickets were down for 33, but Davidson and Leigh played out time, and Beckenham won by six tuns on the first innings. Waltham declared with 157 for nine wickets, but failed to dismiss Hillsborough the second time, and won by 41 tubs on. the grst innings. Results:— SENIOR A GRADE Beckenham 101 and 41 for six wickets beat Papanui 95 and 96 (Beckett 26, Sherwood 22 not out) by 6 runs on the first innings. For Beckenham; Mitchell took three for 30, Heath two for 9, and Griffiths two for 15; and for Papanui, Bell took four for 17. Waltham 157 for nine wickets declared (Milne 38, Newfield 27, Hay 27) beat Hillsborough 118 and 70 for seven wickets by 39 runs on the first innings. For Hillsborough, Prebble.took eight for 20. W.M.C. 183 beat Matchless 182 (H. Wason 59, Smythe 36, Gallagher 46) by 1 run. For W.M.Q., McKay took five for 82, and Warr three for 38. SENIOR B GRADE Waltham 67 and 63 for seven wickets (Dawson 24, Jackson 20) beat Shipping 55 and 71 (Dale 20) by three wickets. For Waltham, Jackson took six for 21, and Rayner seven for 16; and for Shipping, Gray took two for 14, and Porteous two for 11. Sumner 163 beat Wigram 191 and 19 for no wickets by 62 runs on the first innings. Spreydon 185 drew with New Brighton 139 for nine wickets. • JUNIOR A GRADE Opawa 84 and 92 for six wickets _(O. Brough 25) beat Mairehau 69 and 118 for eight wickets declared (Saunders 40 not out) by 15 runs on the first innings. For Opawa, Beavis took three for 38; and for Mairehau, Saunders took six for 38.' Shirley 140 and 86 for three wickets (Coleman 39, Watson 38) beat Tramways 65 and 158 (Shipton 73, Cook 31) by seven wickets. For Shirley, Watson took three for 30. Southern 169 for nine wickets declared (Scott 61) and 7 for no wickets beat Papanui 94 and 86 by 75 runs on the first innings. For Southern, Calvert took five for 18; and for Papanui, Cole took three for 26. JUNIOR B GRADE Riccarton 197 for two wickets beat St. Albans 141 by 56 runs. Heathcote 190 beat Army 80 by 110 runs. JUNIOR C GRADE Hay’s 119 beat Beckenham 112 by 7 runs on the first innings. Kempthorne’s 171 (Grammer 71, Pahl 24) and 62 for four wickets declared, beat Waltham 100 and 58 for five wickets I (Brown 39), by 71 runs on the first innings. For Kempthorne’s, Bennetts took five for 30. New Brighton 164 and 79 (Needham 32) beat Harewood 87 and 89 (Dyer 42), by 57 runs. For New Brighton, Moore took seven for 36, including, the hat-trick, and Needham four for 30; and for Harewood; Cains took four for 22, an# Dyer three for 21. THIRD A GRADE Halswell 143 for five wickets declared (McGowan 75) beat Beckenham 75, by 68 runs. Burwood 95 drew with St. Albans 55 for five wickets. THIRD B GRADE Heathcote 150 for four wickets declared (Adams 56, Weatherhead 56 not out) drew with Merivale, 116 for six wickets (T. Keys 43, A,. Keys 31 not out). For Heathcote, Adams took four for 25. Hillsborough 89 beat Spreydon 81. For Hillsborough, Sincock took five for 30; and for Spreydon, Johansen took five for 26. Burwood 75 (Clark 28) beat Beckenham 74 (Dunn 21) by .1 run. For Burwood, Sampson took four for 24. and Campbell three for 27; and for Beckenham, Squire took three for 18, and Weir three for 27.

Templeton Farm 172 for seven wickets declared (Tansley 63, Cox 55 not out) beat Grosvenor 36 by 136 runs. For Templeton Farm, Cox took three for 6, including the hat- trick; and for Grosvenor Burton took six for 37.

. THIRD C GRADE Cambridge Terrace 100 (Jones 46) beat Southern 18 and 35 for five wickets, by 82 runs on the first innings. For Cambridge Terrace, Watson took six for 6 and three for 7; and for Southern Taylor took five for 29.

Riccarton 59 beat Matchless 58 by 1 run. For Riccarton, Wootton took four for 15, and. Fraser four for 13; and for Matchless Waterland took four for 16.

MERCANTILE SECTION Radley 151 (Maguire 47, E. Gearry 33) beat Peerless 36 and 36 by an innings and 79 runs. For Radley, Wildermoth took three for 5. f

Atlas 73 for four wickets beat Osborne 72 (Methison 37) by six wickets. For Atlas. Batchelor took five for 28; and for Osborne, Marsden took four for 34. Telegraph 106 for six wickets declared (Bromley 43 not out; Prince 23 retired) beat W.A.C. 23, by 83 runs. For Telegraph, Bromley took three for 5, Lennon three for 6, and Jenkinson two for 1. Urlwins 109 (Gillard 56) beat Greens 42 by 67 runs. For Greens, Foster took six for 29.
