MY HERO SOLD IN AUSTRALIA

CAULFIELD WINNER BRINGS 5300GNS

(NJZ. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Nov. 6. The New Zealand racehorse. My Hero, was sold for 5300 guineas at auction today. He was bought by Mr H. D. Grist of Ballarat.

Bidding began at 3000 guineas, and rose quickly by 100 guinea bids. Regal Gem, by Dhoti from French Gem. brought 7000 guineas.

My Hero, which was bred at Christchurch by Mr O. F. Watson, is a six-year-old brown horse by Neptune from Otetanui. From 45 starts in New Zealand, he won the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Nursery Handicap, the Islington Handicap, and Canterbury Cup. and the Wellington Racing Club’s October Handicap. His placings in New Zealand included a second to Jamell in the 1951 New Zealand Cup, third to Conclusion and Lekas in the same event in 1952, second to Reformed in the Wellington Cup, and fourth in the Auckland Cup. During his short Australian campaign he won the Herbert Power Handicap, the Hotham Handicap, and the Caulfield Cup. and was third to finish in the Melbourne Cup. His stake-earnings now’ total £20,440.
