LIFE MEMBERSHIP AWARD
MR P. COIRA HONOURED Mr Peter Coira, a life member of the New Zealand Surf Life-saving Association, achieved an unusual distinction when he was also elected a life member of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association at. the annual meeting of delegates held in Christchurch on Saturday. Mr Coira was handicapper ’of the New Zealand Association from 1925 to IM3, a New Zealand selector for swimming teams at the Empire Games, in 1938 and 1960, and from 1945 he has been a*member of the council of the association. Part of this time he was chairman of the council. Mr Coira said that 30 years ago he had been elected a life member of the Lyall Bay Club, he had put 50 years into swimming, and he hope to complete 75 years in-service to the sport. On the recommendation of the life membership and blazer committee, the following were authorised to wear the service award blazer of the association:— R. M. McGregor (Ashburton), W. S. Moorbead (Taranaki), A. G. Petrie (Stratford), David Forsyth (Dunedin), Donal W. Reid (Temuka), J. A. Durand (Dunedin), Charles El Brown (Gisborne), Keith Spry (Wellington), R. J. Tupper (Hutt), W. G. Collins (Timaru), George . Aston (Blenheim), J. E; R. Paterson (Nelson), W. F. Webb (Southland), F. Vff Springford (Southland), and Frank Stains (Masterton).
On the motion of the Waikato centre (Mr G. J. Hopcroft), members of the winning team at the national water polo championships will be permitted to wear the New Zealand Association’s blazer, .with the words “water polo” and the year beneath the crest. The number that will be eligible in any one team shall be nine.
