MEN SAVED FROM DROWNING

RESCUE BY CHRISTCHURCH AIRMAN (New Zealand Press Associationf WELLINGTON, September 21. An English immigrant and a companion were saved at Paremata yesterday by a 24-year-old New Zealand airman, Peter Bissett Clark, of Christchurch, who swam half a mile through icy-cold water to assist them when their yacht capsized about 1 p.m. They were sailing a Takapuna class yacht on the. Porirua harbour when they were caught in a dangerous rip about half a mile off-shore, and the yacht capsized. They called for help and were heard by Mrs R. Pascoe, who called to Mr Clark. He was walking to the Paremata Railway Station to catch a train for Wellington to attend a Battle of Britain parade. He ran to the beach and, according to eye witnesses, had shed most of his clothing before he reached the water.

One of the yachtsmen was exhausted and was assisted to keep afloat for 20 minutes by Mr Clark until a launch arrived and rescued them.
