CROSSING-KEEPER KILLED STRUCK BY TRAIN AT RICCARTON The crossing-keeper at the Lower Riccarton railway crossing was killed when he was struck by the Christ-church-Rangiora train about 5.27 p.m. on Saturday. He was Oliver Emery, married, aged 65, of 2 Rugby street, Christchurch. MOTORCYCLIST DIES OF INJURIES (New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, September 19. A 56-year-old labourer died. early this morning in the Napier Public Hospital, eight hours after -he had been thrown from his motor-cycle when it struck the side of a car north of Bayview, near Napier, He was Harry Davis, of the Petane Pa. The accident occurred soon after 6 p.m. yesterday. Mr Davis died in hospital about 2.30 a.m. today.

WHITEBAITER’S BODY RECOVERED

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 20. The body of Andrew Dunn, aged 65. of Heriot street, Invercargill, was recovered yesterday from the Oreti river, about 400 yards from the spot where his whitebait net was set in the river on Thursday. A party of police and civilian searchers found the body snagged on a tree stump in deep water at 6.30 p.m. yesterday.

YOUTH FALLS INTO HOT POOL DEATH IN HOSPITAL (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 20. A youth died in the Rotorua Hospital on Saturday after falling into a hot pool at Ohinemutu. He was Whenu (Sonny) Rangi Paruira, aged* 17, a sop of Mr and Mrs Rangi Paruira, of Ohinemutu. The accident occurred just before 11 p.m., and the youth was admitted to hospital with severe burns and shock. CHILD KILLED BY TRUCK (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 20. A four-year-old girl, Gillian Mary Kehoe, was killed on Saturday afternoon when she was knocked down by a light truck in Cambridge terrace, 1 Lower Hutt. She was a daughter of I Traffic Inspector John Kehoe, who was shot dead on the Whakatane-Te Puke road on January 31, 1949, The girl, Mr and Mrs Kehoe’s second daughter, was born six months after her father was shot.
