ARBITRATION POLICY

REQUEST TO FEDERATION TO CALL CONFERENCE (New Zealand Press Association) September 18. ' After the Court of Arbitration has made its pronouncement on wage claims which are to come before it in Wellington on Wednesday, the Auckland Trades Council will ask the national executive of the Federation of Labour to call a conference to reconsider its policy on conciliation and arbitration. The council made this decision last night. Delegates questioned whether a protest to the Government regarding retrospective payments might prejudice consideration of claims by the Court. “The time to act is after the Court has made its pronouncement,” said Mr T. E. Skinner, secretary of the Musicians’ Union. The council resolved to convene a meeting of the executive and job delegates, within two weeks of the Court’s decision, to hear a full report from the executive on the wages position.
