HANDICAP WON BY PUKETOI (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, September 20. Ideal weather prevailed on Saturday for the Marton Jockey Club’B spring meeting. The large attendance included the Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie), whose horse. Pirate, ran unplaced in the Spring Hack Handicap. The track was slightly holding, but the going was good. The totalisator' turhover was £58,167, compared with £58,925 last year—a decrease of £756. The Puketoi-Sly Imp doublet dividend was £127 14s 6d for £L When Ohga fell after a Circuit in the Hack and Hunters’ Steeples, he suffered injuries and had to be destroyed. About two furlongs from the finish of the Spring Hack Handicap, flying Gleam fell and brought down silver Rudder. W. J. Broughton, the rider of Silver Rudder, escaped injury, but K. Chote, who rode Flying Gleam, was thrown heavily. Chote was unable to fulfil further engagements. An inquiry into the fall was opened, but was adjourned until Chote is available to give evidence.
