MALVERN SUBASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Malvern Lawn Tennis Sub-Association was held recently. A satisfactory credit balance was reported. The draw for matches will be published in “The Press” on October 7, and matches will start on October 17. The election of officers resulted as follows:—patron. Mr G. Batstone; president, Mr G. R. Bedford; senior vice-president, Mr A. Swanson: junior vice-president, Mr K. Wells; honorary secretary-treasurers. Miss H. E. Henderson and Mr R. H. Henderson; auditor, Mr J. F. Lawrey; delegates to Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association. Messrs A. C. Felton and A. Swanson: emergency committee, Messrs G. R. Bedford, A. Swanson, and R. H. Henderson, and Miss H. Henderson. ELMWOOD CLUB The Elmwood Tennis Club’s season was opened on Saturday by the president (Mr E. E. Burrell). Mrs Burrell presented last year’s prizes as follows:—championships—men’s singles: W. A. Dickson; men’s doubles, C. G. Finney and W. P. Jones; women’s singles. Miss D. E. Luxton; women’s doubles, Mesdames S. Austin and I. F. T. Freeby; mixed doubles, J.. J. Buchan and Mrs D. C. Rumbold: junior men’s singles, W. A. Dickson; junior women’s singles. Miss J. Mardon; girls* singles. Miss Judith Hobbs; boys’ singles. A. N. R. Wallace; girls’ doubles. WOOLSTON CLUB At the opening of the Woolston Tennis Club’s new pavilion on Saturday, trophies were presented as follows: , Men’s championship singles, A. Bailey, women’s championship singles, Miss Joyce Neuman; men’s championship doubles, M. Maher and W. Logan; women’s championship doubles. Misses J. Taylor and M. Bailey: mixed championship doubles, G. Lane and Miss Neumann; girls’ championship singles. Miss Jeannette Taylor; mens handicap singles. M. Agar; women’s handicap singles. Miss M. Steventon; girls’ handicap singles, Miss M. Logie; Garton Cup, for most improved player, Miss M. Steventon. SPREYDON CLUB The Spreydon Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday afternoon. Mr RTregoning, the club president, declared the season open and congratulated the club on the healthy state of its finances and the general condition of its property. The following members were successful in the club’s competitions:—womens championship singles. Miss E. Moore; men’s championship singles, H. Meads; women’s handicap singles, Mrs M.
