PROPOSED AID FOR FRENCH
Sir,—Stalin and Beria are no more, but the so-called New Zealand Peace Council lives, as evidenced by its latest press release. The supply of arms to the present rulers of Indo-China is definitely unfair, since Vietminh employs non-violent methods, is unarmed, unaided; and last, not least, the Peace Council decided that Vietminh’s is • just war. Although the governments of both the West and the Soviet bloc are equally peaceful, the Soviet bloc is more peaceful still because its atom bombs, hydrogen bombs, jet planes, tanks, and compulsory recruits carry the insignia of sickle and hammer. As we have learned from the confessions of the new Soviet bosses, plenty of guns have been provided, but little butter, enabling Vietminh to resist unjust aggression. It is also quite likely that the Soviet branches of the Christchurch Peace Council view such sharing with dismay.—Yours, etc., WAR IS A CRIME. September 18, 1953.
