COURSING
Sir, —Do those persons who have written to “The Press” on coursing and live pigeon shooting really want to help? Miss Mabel Howard, Parliament Buildings, Wellington, wants 10,000 signatures. Those wishing to help should drop her a note and get petitions going. I have already done so.—Yours, etc., ACTION. September 18. 1953.
Sir, —I should like to commend Miss Howard on the stand she has taken with regard to live hare coursing. Good luck to her. May her appeal be successful. Would there were more women like her who would raise their voices in protest against such things. Mr McAlpine has suggested that, if the House of Representatives were to take notice of coursing, it should take into account all aspects of cruelty in blood sports. Surely all Christian people will agree that it is high time the House did. The New South Wales Government has decided to abolish coursing on the ground ■of cruelty. Surely this should put New Zealanders to if they do not do likewise. As to feeding the hares, that only makes matters worse, because animals naturally trust those who feed them.— Yours, etc., WELL DONE, MISS HOWARD. September 18, 1953.
