VALUE OF BUILDING PERMITS

WAIMAIRI SIXTH IN NEW ZEALAND Sixth place for New Zealand in the issue of building permits for the year ended March 31 last was held by the Waimairi county. The Government return was that the value was £1,583,066 and the county return was £1,190,109. The building inspector reported to the county council last evening that the difference of £392,957 represented the value of schools, public works, State houses, etc., for which applications for permits did not come to the council. Permits issued in New Zealand last year Were: Auckland £3,936,081, Christchurch City £2,570,828, Wellington £1,995,455, Waitemata county £1,856,109, Palmerston North £1,740,743, Lower Hutt £1,562,908, Hamilton £1,559,263. Building permits issued in Waimairi during August were 138, of a value of £194,054. New dwellings totalled 63.
