COCOS ISLANDS REFUELLING

R.A.F. PREPARES IN SINGAPORE

(Rec. 8 p.m.) SINGAPORE. September 17. The Royal Air Force in Singapore is preparing for “Operation Cocos,” the transport of 100 men with their equipment by air to the Cocos Islands, to set up a refuelling point for Royal Air Force jets in the London to Christchurch air race. The Royal Air Force will set up a tent camp for the men. some of them from the Royal Navy. Another 300 tons of equipment is being sent by sea. The Cocos Islands are in the Indian Ocean, equidistant between Colombo and Perth. They will be the final refuelling point for at least one of the Royal Air Force entries (the Vickers Valiant bomber), which will make only two stops, at Karachi and Cocos.
