LEADERSHIP OF BRITAIN
Possible Changes In Cabinet LONDON, August 28. Reuter’s political correspondent says Sir Winston Churchill is working on the problem of Cabinet reconstruction at Chequers, his official country house in Buckinghamshire. Political sources believe he is planning with the intention of remaining in office as Prime Minister as long as his health permits, with Mr R. A. Eden, the Foreign Secretary, as his personal aide. This would involve a change in the Foreign Secretaryship to- allow Mr Eden to give more time to the duties of Deputy-Prime Minister and, as such, eventual successor to Sir Winston Churchill.
Free of his Foreign Office responsibilities, Mr Eden, now convalescing after a series of operations, could, without overstrain, take some of the load off the Prime Minister, who himself was recently obliged to rest from overwork.
