WOMAN PILOT’S FEAT
Mrs Auriol Breaks Sound Barrier (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8.30 p.m.)' PARIS, August 30. Mrs Jacqueline Auriol, the 3b-year-old daughter-in-law of tne French President. Mr Vincent Auriol, and the mother of two sons, crashed the sound barrier today above Bretigny airport outside Paris in the French jet, My stere 11.
Mrs Auriol. who began flying in 1948. and is now a test pilot at Bretigny, is believed to have reached a speed of 1100 kilometres (about 683 J miles an hour).
Since obtaining her wings in 1948, Mrs Auriol has gained her military licence, her public transport licence, her helicopter licence, and her glider licence.
