(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 30. A. Twohill (West Coast) beat the titleholder, L. Stout (Wellington), in the final of the New Zealand amateur billiards championship on Saturday evening. Twohill scored 1112 points to Stout’s 945. Twohill carried an unfinished break of 14 to 24 when play resumed on Saturday evening, to give him a lead of 46 points. The scoring was close up to 700, when Twohill’s lead was only 15. He then scored 48 and 44 in successive visits to the table, and reached 800 when Stout was 697.

Breaks of 37 and 26 enabled Twohill to set a lead of 884 to 727, but Stout then scored his best break of the evening—an artistic 83.

Soon afterwards. Stout had reduced the margin to 57 points, and was in position at the top of the table for a possible big break. He had compiled 27 when he missed what appeared to be an easy pot. Twohill took full advantage of the good position to compile a grand break of 86. the best of the evening. The score was then 1018 to 886, with insufficient time for Stout to win unless he occupied the table for the rest of the session and scored very fast. He was unable to do so. Best breaks were 86. 48. 44, 37, 32, 26, ro on’ on a o d 20 by Twohill, and 83, 29 - 29 > 27 and 22 by Stout. Twohill s average was 13, and Stout’s 10.8.
