The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 pm. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the time of issue, is:— Situation: a trough of low pressure is moving on to New Zealand. Forecast: moderate west to south-west* winds; weather fair to fine; temperature* cooL Outlook: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to fresh west to southwest winds; weather cloudy and cool, with occasional showers. Outlook: showery. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a very light south-west wind in the morning and no wind in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 51.5 degrees.
At midnight the sky was overcast, and there was a light wind from the east. The temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer, at 29.394 inches (993.7 millibars), was falling unsteadily.
