CHAIRMAN’S ANNUAL REPORT A total of 13,941 patients was carried during last year in ambulances operated by the Canterbury and West Coast Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association, an increase on the previous year of 1553 cases, according tc the annual report of the chairman (Mr B. J. McKenna). The ambulances travelled 108,872 miles during the year. According to the financial statement, £llO4 was spent on petrol and oil. Users of the vehicles gave a total of £6BO.

The house-to-house appeal held last year for the first time had proved a complete success, said Mr McKenna. Altogether £3788 was received from this source, and 41 new contributors had given £5 or more and been elected tow life membership. There had been a steady demand for classes in first aid and home nursing in Christchurch throughout the year, Mr McKenna said. It had been found necessary to hold extra classes in first aid, as the demand could not be met by the original programme. Classes In public and personal hygiene had been revived and had met with reasonable success.
