MANUFACTURERS’ PRESIDENT

MR URLWIN TO RETIRE FROM OFFICE

“I have really enjoyed the last year in office and I am sorry that I have got to go—it makes a man feel old,’’ said the president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, Mr H. C. Urlwin, at a meeting of the council of the association last evening, after Mr T. H. Lawn had announced that Mr Urlwin would shortly be giving up the presidency. Mr Lawn said that Mr Urlwin had been “ah energetic leader, often very provocative in debate and unique in expression.’’ Mr Urlwin said that he had to admit that he was “a bit unorthodox.” Fears that he might have a divided council under him had proved quite unfounded, he said. He had had the complete backing of the council. Mr Lawn also spoke appreciatively of the services of a retiring councillor, Mr C. B. Myhre.
