41 KILLED IN PLANE CRASH

(Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 18. Forty-one persons were killed today when a Marine transport plane crashed in flames shortly after taking off from Whiting field, Florida. The plane had aboard 40 reserve officers and training corps cadets, and a crew of six. Six survivors were rushed to hospital, but one died after admission. Two of the others are reported to be in a critical condition and three in a serious condition. Charred bodies were recovered from the wreckage of the plane by Navy teams which worked throughout the night. The plane, a Marine version of the “Flying Boxcar,” had been on a flight from Corpus Christi, Texas, to Norfolk, Virginia.
