COURSING

DERBY AND OAKS HELD

The New Zealand Derby and the New Zealand Oaks were held by the Christchurch Coursing Club at Sockbum on Saturday. Dogs from Auckland, Taihape, and Upper Hutt were among the competitors. Many dogs in the races will compete in the Waterloo Cup race in August, and Saturday’s events gave some indication of their chances to followers of the sport. The Derby was won by G. Blair and Miss Hodgson’s The Rascal, and the Oaks was won by Patrick and Galvin’s Gladful from Reed’s Miss Jackie.

The Jackson and Wilde Cup, the other event on the programme, was won by F. J. and N. Cleary’s Pallas Athene.
