CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY AT HASTINGS

(New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, July 19. The Paraparaumu scratch golfer. N. H. Amon, won the Hawke’s Bay amateur stroke championship, played over 72 holes at Bridge Pa links, Hastings, at the weekend. With an aggregate of 294, Amon was four strokes ahead of five others who tied on 298. Amon, who is not a member of the New Zealand team to tour Australia shortly, played the most consistent golf of the tournament. On a count-back, second place went to S. A. McDonald, Hutt, who is to tour Australia with the New Zealand team. Also on 298 were R. B. Dailey (Daxmevirke), who confirmed his place as one of the best young players in Hawke’s Bay, K. S. Glendinning (Manawatu), player manager of the New Zealand team to tour Australia, J. H. Lowes (Napier), and T. J. Atkins, a scratch player, formerly of Nelson and now of Hastings.
