Doyleston.—The president (Mrs R. A. Batt), presided over a good attendance at the June meeting of the Doyleston Country Women’s Institute. One new member was welcomed. Birthday sprays were presented to two members. A demonstration on making a posy from nylon-stockings was given by Mrs Millar, of Irwell. Greendale.—Mrs Wooster presided at the July meeting of Greendale Country Women’s Institute held in the pavilion. A talk on the keeping of poultry was given by Mr Goldsmith of the Department of Agriculture. Members were thanked for their help with the twentyfirst birthday party. . Waipara.—Mrs Fincham presided over a fairly good attendance of members at the July meeting of the Waipara Country Women’s Institute and welcomed two new members. It was decided, instead of giving the usual varied competition prizes at the end of the year, to give each member qualifying a teaspoon, the winning member to have her name inscribed on the cup as usual. Thompson, and a new member, MrS A. Reid, was welcomed. Mrs W. O. Hills gave an interesting talk on her visit overseas, and Mrs Manning thanked her. Coalgate.—There was an attendance of 18 members at the July meeting of the Coalgate Country Women’s Institute, when Mrs T. Kennedy (president) presided and welcomed one new member. Arrangements were made for members to attend the Malvern group meeting, and it was agreed to support the renewal of the sponsorship of the children under the Save the Children scheme. The August meeting will take place in the evening, when the recently-formed drama circle will present plays. The spring flower show was discussed and members were asked to bring ideas for the schedule to next meeting. The wandering shilling was won by Mrs Kellaway. The rollcall, “A happy memory,” was well responded to. Mrs W. Oakley. Hororata, demonstrated the making of nylon posies, and was thanked by the president. Lakeside.—Mrs L. Cooper presided at the July meeting of the Lakeside Country Women's Institute. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs C. Chamberlain and Mrs T. Gulliver in their recent bereavements, and Mrs G. Barnett in her illness Invitations were received to attend birthday parties of the Southbridge, Leeston and Killinchy Institutes and the Dunsandel branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mr Button, of Lincoln, spoke on poultry farming and later answered questions. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Johnson and Misses Hantz, Broadhurst and Cooper. Competitions judged by Mesdames T. Lake Coleridge.—Mrs Harrison presided at the monthly meeting of the Lake Coleridge Country Women’s Institute. The roll call was a collection of magazines for the hospitals. The secretary reported that the parcel of knitting and sewing materials was sent to Malaya. Arrangements were made for the birthday party early in August. Birthday flowers were presented to Mrs Wylie. A demonstration of quilted cushions was given by Mrs Harrison. Competitions resulted as follows:—prettiest ned jacket: Mrs McFarlane 1, Mrs Gordon 2. Akaroa.—There was a big attendance at the monthly meeting of the Akaroa Country Women's Institute. Mrs P. G. Riches presided. Mr S. F. Browne, Le Bon’s Bay, gave a report of his experiences when he was shot down in France in 1941. Pupils of the Akaroa District High School with their teachers, Miss Greenwood and Mr Maher, were also present. Mr Abdullah, of Malaya, who is interested in the education of the Malayan people and has come to New Zealand to study adult education, also spoke. He said he was interested in the organisation, and institutes were being formed in Malaya in an endeavour to raise the status of women. It was decided to hold the birthday party in the Parish Hall on September 17. A letter was read from members of the Little River institute inviting members to their birthday party on July 24. Mrs L. C. Newton read a letter from an Akaroa girl describing the naval review at Spithead. Results of the competitions were:—Best bloom: Mrs Rex Davis 1, Mrs E. Woodill 2 Mrs E. May 3. Springfield.—The monthly meeting of the Springfield Country Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs J. Scott. Mrs F.. Rushton presided. A donation of £2 was given to the Coronation Day committee towards expenses. Mrs C. Campbell won a competition organised by Mrs Scott. Mrs D. Dingwall won the wandering parcel.
