BALVEINE NORMAL AFTER TREATMENT Balveine, Dalray’s three-year-old brother, was unable to race at the Wellington Racing Club's winter meeting because of trouble in a shoulder. He was brought back to Ricca rton by K. J. Thomson and on arrival at his home stable ran out into his paddock as though there had never been anything wrong with him. Balveine was given ray treatment while he was at Trentham and it proved beneficial, but not in time for him to have a race at the meeting. If there is no recurrence of the trouble Balveine will be at his best for hack races at the Grand National meeting next month. THREE WINS FROM FOUR RIDES The Awapuni jockey, J. W. Harris, showed his versatility at Trentham on Saturday, when he was successful over country, over hurdles, and on the flat. Harris had four rides for the day and rode three winners—Canadian (Talavera Hurdles), Gay Echo (Riddiford Steeplechase), and Whitehall (Kia Ora Handicap). He was unplaced on Sporting Ken in the Onslow Handicap. An investment of £ 1 each way on Harris’s mounts would have returned a profit of £29 5s 6d. TRENTHAM INQUIRIES Chivalrous, the favourite, ridden by B. J. Langford, fell on the flat about 100 yards after jumping the hurdle in front of the stewards' stand in the Talavera Hurdles at Trentham on Saturday. Langford told the judicial committee that his horse made a very big jump at this hurdle and ran up quickly, clipping the heels of Fairhall Lad and falling. Langford said he would have recovered if the track had not been so heavy, but he became unbalanced and fell. J. P. Carter, rider of Duke of York in the Crofton Hack Handicap, was charged, with causing interference to Foghorn and Trim Lad. Trim Lad fell and Foghorn was sent back from seventh place to the tail of the field at the six furlongs. After hearing the evidence of the jockeys concerned the judicial, committee took no action.
