MILK BOARD CHAIRMAN

RETIRING OFFICER’S COMMENT Mr J. Mathison, M.P., was elected chairman at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board yesterday. He succeeds Miss M. B. Howard, M.P. Mr Mathisons was the only nomination for the post He was nominated by Mr L. Christie and his nomination was seconded by Mr J. W. Green. When Mr Mathison was declared elected by the secretary, Mr H. S. Feast, who was chairman for the election, the retiring chairman, Miss Howard, said that she was pleased that on this occasion there had been no objection lodged to the appointment. There must have been something personal in the objection that had been made last year, she added. There were cries of “No, no” from several members of the board. Mr H. S. S Kyle said that Miss Howard had apparently taken up the wrong aspect of the objection. The question raised on that occasion was that people representing outside local bodies never had a chance of becoming chairman of the board because City Council members predominated and they nominated one of their number. Mr Christie: The ' same position still applies but the objection was expressed last year. Other board members: Yes.
