TRACTOR CAPSIZES INTO DRAIN

A young man was killed early on Saturday evening when he was pinned under a tractor in a swampy drai% in a mixture of mud and water. He was David McKee Dickson, aged 24, a farmer, of Waipara. His father is Dr. D. McK. Dickson, of 35 Mathers road, Halswell.

The accident occurred between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. when Mr Dickson was coming in with a tractor drawing a light trailer after feeding hay to stock. He was travelling along a farm track which was greasy and had a fairly steep incline. The tractor apparently slewed round and capsized into the ditch. Mr Dickson was pinned underneath, and when he did not come in his sister went in search of him. She found him

under the tractor. Dr. Meikleham, of Waikari, and Dr. Dickson, father of the driver of the tractor, tried for about four hours to resuscitate him. An inquest will be opened in Christchurch this morning.

MOTORCYCLIST KILLED

COLLISION WITH CAR (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 12. A motor-cyclist died in the Auckland Hospital on Saturday night, soon after he. had been involved m a collision with a small car at an intersection. He was: Mervyn Johnston, aged 17, a butcher, of Mount Roskill. A pillion passenger, Barry Humphries. was admitted to hospital with concussion. The two occupants of the car, which was overturned in the collision, were treated for minor abrasions and discharged from hospital.

WOMAN KILLED BY TAXI

(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 11. A 73-year-old widow died after being struck by a taxi at the junction ot Smart road and the Main North road, New Plymouth, at 10.40 p.m. yesterday. She was Mrs Emmeline Matilda Minnear, of 13 Chilman street, New Plymouth. Mrs Minnear had been visiting friends and was returning home. The ambulance was called, but Mrs Minnear died before admission to hospital.
