English Institute’s Competition

Members of Women’s Institutes, and kindred bodies will be interested to learn of an unusual competition reported in an English newspaper. At a meeting of a Women’s Institute the competition was for an extra verse to be added to the National Anthem in Coronation year. The winning entry was as follows: Princess of ancient race, Spirit of youth and grace, are our 9 ueen - With a young mother’s hand, Govern our lovely land; Proudly your people stand To hail their Queen. The. winner of the competition was Mrs Garfitt, daughter of Mrs Henry Bowen, who is visiting Christchurch and is the guest of her sister-in-law, Miss Laura Bowen, of Merivale lane.
