N.Z. MEMBER OF EXPEDITION

ADDITIONAL HONOUR LIKELY "The Press” Special Service HASTINGS, June 22. Mr George Lowe, the 28-year-old Hastings schoolteacher who was a member of the successful Everest expedition, may be awarded an honour additional to the Coronation Medal for his part in the climb. Mr S. I. Jones, M.P. for Hastings, has made it known, on information received from the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr K. J. Holyoake) that the Government has already considered an additional honour for Mr Lowe, and that more thought will be given to it on the Prime Minister’s return to New Zealand. Mr Holyoake has informed Mr Jones that immediately on the receipt of the news that Everest had been climbed, the Government took steps to have the names of both Sir Edmund Hillary and Mr Lowe included in the list of Coronation Medal recipients. Their names will appear in the main list of. those awarded- the medal, to be published soon in a special Gazette.
