DEPUTATION TO GOVERNMENT

North Canterbury Hospital Board

TALKS AT WELLINGTON YESTERDAY (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 22.

A deputation from the North Canterbury Hospital Board waited on the Minister of Works (Mr W. S. Goosmdn) and the Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Marshall) in Parliament Buildings this afternoon. None of the parties concerned would ’Say what subjects were discussed at the meeting, but it is believed that the principal matter was whether the new Cashmere hospital should be equipped with an electric or coal steam-generating plant. Many of the hospital services, such as the sterilising of tanks and general heating, require large amounts of steam.

Representatives of the Ministry of Works, the State Hydro-electric Department, and the Department of Health were present. The delegation was headed by the chairman of the hospital board (Mr V. C. Lawn). Other members were the chairman of the works committee (Mr J. J. Brownlee), a member of the board, Mr D. S. Dodds, the board’s consulting engineer (Professor R. J. Rastrick), the board’s architect (Mr A. H. Manson), and the secretary of the board (Mr A. Prentice).

Mr Lawn said last evening on his return from Wellington that he was not able to make any statement at present, but that a prepared statement would be put before the board at a meeting tomorrow morning.
