FINGER RIDGE BATTLE
SOUTH KOREANS IN COUNTER ATTACK
, (Rec* 11 p.m.) SEOUL, June 22. t South Korean troops yesterday hit back on Finger Ridge, on the central » front, the scene of the massive Chinese r assault last week, to seize and hold ; one of the prominent knobs of this . height. The South Koreans attacked under ’ intense artillery support, and after intense fighting drove the Chinese off the peak. Late last night the Chinese again threw the Koreans off the knob, but early this morning the Koreans fought their way back again, and last reports said they were still there. The Communists late last night made another attempt to capture Christmas Hill, the east central front strong-point, where South Korean infantry stood fast last week in spite of the weight of the Chinese big drive. The Bth Army said that about 150 Communists stacked last night, but were driven off after hand-to-hand fighting. Fog and drizzle grounded fighter aircraft and restricted operations by Allied warships.
