ROYAL TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND

PLANS FOR CONTROL OF ROAD TRAVEL DECISIONS BY TRAFFIC OFFICERS (New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, June 22. A Transport Department patrol car with two-way radio will travel about one and a naif miles ahead of the car carrying the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh when they are travelling by road during their New Zealand tour. This was reported by Chief Traffic Officer J. W. Coddington, of Napier, this morning. The traffic officer in the patrol car will be in constant radio communication with

the police car accompanying the Royal party to advise on road conditions and to report possible hold-ups. These arrangements were made at a conference of chief traffic officers in Wellington last week. Final details are being worked out. Some distance behind the Royal party will be another patrol car to prevent traffic passing and to stop unauthorised cars from joining the Royal procession. The traffic officer in front will also advise the police car of any representative group of people lining the road to enable the royal party to stop for a' few minutes if possible. He will be equipped with a public address system to inform the public of the whereabouts of the Royal party and its movements. The Transport Department will cooperate with the police, who are in charge of traffic control. Additional traffic officers will be transferred to areas where functions are being held.
