RANDWICK WINNER DISQUALIFIED

The stewards of the Australian Jockey Club today disqualified Cuizean as winner of the Randwick Wentworth Handicap on April 6, after reporting that a drug ,had been administered to the colt. Tlie stewards also reported that the owners of the colt and the trainer, M. McCarten, had taken all proper precautions to prevent the administration of a drug at any relevant time, and for these reasons no action was taken. The first prize money for the race was £877. This now goes to the second horse, Connaught. Today’s rulings were the sequel to others which the stewards gave after swabs had been taken from the Doncaster winner, Tarien, and Crornis, winner of the Sires’ Produce Stakes at the same meeting. ASCOT MEETING CHURCHILL STAKES TO LE VENT ( N.Z.P.A. —Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, June 21. The Churchill Stakes, run over one mile and a half, at Ascot on Saturday resulted : LE VENT (Mistral—East Anglia) 9-3 J. Time, smin 12 4-ssec. Lord Fox is owned by the Aga Khan. FRENCH GRAND NATIONAL PHARAMOND 111 HAS EASY VICTORY ( N.Z.P.A,—Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, June 21. Reuter’s correspondent in Paris states that Pharamond 111 gained a 10 lengths’ victory in the Grand Steeplechase de Paris, the French Grand National, at Auteuil, today. Only four of the nine runners completed the course of four miles and two furlongs and a half. Second was Radium, with last year’s winner, Toumay, eights lengths further back, third. The favourite, Flfrelet, fell at the last fence. RICCARTON TRAINER HONOURED Mr George Ridgway, who will leave tonight to live in the North Island after training at Riccarton since before the war, was guest of honour at a function at the Riccarton facecourse yesterday. He was presented with a split second stopwatch, the gift of “Riccarton sportsmen,” and Mrs Ridgway received a fountain pen and pencil. The presentations were made by Mr H. Prins,. stipendiary steward. A tribute to Mr Ridgway was paid by Mr J. S. Shaw, who invited Mr Ridgway to come to Riccarton to ride jumpers in his stable about 17 years ago. Mr Ridgway then took up training in 1939? One of his principal patrons has been the Dunedin owner, Mr J. M. Samson, for whom he will continue to train Major Neptune, Sun Goddess, and a colt by Foxbridge from Golden Sal purchased at the national yearling sales in January. Mr Ridgway will live at Masterton in the meantime. WAIMATE CLUB’S FINANCES The estimated surplus on the annual race meeting did not look particularly pleasing, but the club should be in quite a reasonable position after the Totalisator Agency Board’s distribution of profits, said Major N. A. Rattray, at an executive meeting of the Waimate Racing Club, presided over by Mr M. J. Meehan. A draft statement of accounts presented to the meeting showed an estimated surplus of £299 5s sd £465 12s Id less thanlast year’s profit of £764 17s 6d. The total receipts-were slightly more than last, year, but expenditure (£3934 12s 7d) was £489 15s lid greater.

A statement of investments received by the Totalisator Agency Board showed that off-course investments from all parts of the Dominion for the meeting were £17,921. Of this total, £163 was invested at the Waimate branch.
