SIGN OF THE KIWI
AMENDED PLAN FOR RENOVATION
BUILDING WORK TO COST £4521
The reconstruction of the Sign of the Kiwi, incorporating a shop and public conveniences but deleting the third bedroom, was approved at a price of £4521, excluding water supply, by the City Council last evening. The price was submitted by Mr V. C. Craig, who was the only tenderer on the original plans for renovation. The council has in hand in the Summit road scenic reserves account the sum of £3lBO and the Kiwi Restoration Committee about £l5OO, which it is prepared to make available subject to the amended plans being adopted and consideration being given next year to placing a sum of money on the estimates for the permanent water supply, estimated to cost £2llO. The council adopted the recommendation for the letting of a contract under the amended plans by the reserves committee. If funds are not available next year for the piping of water from Victoria Park or when the renovations have been completed, the installation will be necessary of a temporary rain water supply for the residence at a cost of £250. The Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) said the scheme would be a big improvement. The Kiwi Committee deserved every commendation for its public spirit.
