EXPERIMENTAL HOUSES

PROGRESS AT AUCKLAND

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 22:

Twelve days after th® builders first moved on to the sections, the two experimental lower-cost houses being erected at Sandringham, Auckland, for the Government, are ready for roofing. In reaching this stage, the contractors have “beaten the weather,” and they are now confident of having the houses finished in time for the national housing conference to be held at Wellington early in August. • Rain has fallen on most of the 10 working days, and the ground has been churned up into deep, squelching mud. An unofficial race has developed between Messrs Willoughby and Harris, contractors for the “Wilson” house being built in Lambeth road, and R. Savory, Ltd., which is working on the “Hammond” house in Parry street Only a small children’s playground separates the two contracts, and any marked, progress on one is duly noted and emulated on the other.
