PROPOSED AIRFIELD FOR KAIKOURA
OUTLINE GIVEN OF REQUIREMENTS
The requirements for an airfield in Kaikoura to accommodate Fox Moth, Dragonfly, and Gemini aircraft, were a runway 2400 feet long, with a minimum width of 300 feet, running into the prevailing wind, and, if possible, an alternate runway, said Mr F. J. Steel, director of flight operations of the Civil Aviation branch of the Air Department, in a letter received recently by the Kaikoura County Council. The council is investigating a site at South Bay. The chairman (Cr. H. J. Hewson) said that the airfields inspector of the Air Department (Mr C. A. McDonald) would land in Kaikoura on one of his visits to the South Island and inspect the proposed area.
