MISSING INDIAN FISHERMEN

AIR SEARCH OF BAY OF BENGAL

(Rec. 8 p.m.) MADRAS, June 20. An Indian Air Force Liberator will go out tomorrow over the bay of Bengal to search for 104 fishermen. They are missing after a storm hit a fishing fleet of 252 fishermen off the Madras coast. Seventy exhausted and hungry fishermen from the. fleet came ashore today in a dozen catamarans (small fishing craft) in which they put out to sea on Tuesday, June 16, for a haul of deep sea fish. The Indian naval destroyer Rana was expected at Madras tonight with a further 67 rescued fishermen on board. She will resume her search tomorrow. Two of the fishermen, with stubbly beards and weary faces, who reached the shore today said that when they anchored their craft on Tuesday night the sea was calm. They caught plenty of fish, but a sudden gale set their vessels whirling “like a top,” and tore the sails to shreds.
