“CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY”

STATEMENT BY N.Z. COMMITTEE (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 21. j l6 x United States Government and not the Rosenbergs stands convicted of a crime against humanity?’ says the Wellington “Save the Rosenbergs Committee in a statement today.

The committee said that only last week Dr. Harold C. Urey, war-time head of atomic research, appealed direct to President Eisenhower against the Rosenbergs’ conviction. “Dr. Urey said in his appeal for a new trial that the scientific evidence used to convict the Rosenbergs could not possibly be correct. His appeal was endorsed by Dr. Albert’ Einstein. Dr. Urey was in charge of atomic research at the time the Rosenbergs are alleged to have conspired to commit atomic espionage. Before the Rosenbergs’ trial in 1951 he was announced as the prosecution’s main witness, but along with the big majority of the Government-an-nounced witnesses, he was never called to give evidence.

The United States Government has forsworn any claim to be just or humanitarian by its execution of the parents of two small children on the basis of such flimsy evidence,” the committee says.
