BRITAIN'S NEW "PENNY-A-MILE" AIRLINER.-An artist's impression of the Avro Atlantic delta-winged turbo-jet airliner, details of which were announced recently. It is claimed that the Atlantic, now in the project stage, will be able to fly non-stop from London to New York in five to six hours at an operating cost of about 1d a passenger a statute mile. Ninety-four passengers will be carried in the basic version, 113 in the tourist class, and 76 in the luxury version. The new aircraft will put Britain six years ahead of any competition from the United States, according to Sir Miles Thomas, chairman of the British Overseas Airways corporation.
