FALL INTO POWDERED LIMESTONE

MAN SUFFOCATED AT PORTLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 21. An employee at Wilson’s cement works at Portland, Whangarei, was suffocated in powdered limestone tonight. He was: Mr John McKelvie. aged 27. married, of 9 Moodys avenue. Whangarei. Mr McKelvie fell into a pit of powdered limestone. He was dead when extricated. MOTOR-CYCLE AND CAR COLLIDE A motor-cyclist and his pillion passenger were injured in a collision with a car at the corner of Manchester street and Oxford terrace about 10.15 p.m. on Saturday. Paul van der Meer, of 165 Montreal street, the rider of the motor-cycle, suffered a broken ankle. Miss Noeline Hobden, of 285 Hereford street, the pillion passenger, suffered a fractured leg. Both were admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where their condition last evening was reported as satisfactory. The driver of the car was c Hugh Grant Anderson, of 14 Harvey terrace.

CAR PASSENGER INJURED

A passenger was injured when two cars collided at the corner of Mansfield avenue and Papanui road about 7 p.m. yesterday. The passenger, John Shearer, of 47 Mary street, Papanui, suffered head'injuries and lacerations. The car in whjch he was a passenger was driven by his son, Roy Sinclair Shearer, of Tai Tapu. The other car involved in the collision was driven by Douglas Ash, Springs road, Prebbleton. Mr Shearer was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital. His condition was reported as satisfactory last evening.

MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED AT ASHBURTON William Boyle Roski, aged 23, of the Commercial Flats, Ashburton, fell from his motor-cycle on Saturday and was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital with concussion and lacerations of the face. Last evening his condition was reported to be satisfactory.
