AIR RACE TO HAREWOOD

START FROM LONDON IN AFTERNOON

REPORT IN BRITISH JOURNAL "The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, June 21. The London-Christchurch air race will start at 4.30 p.m. (GMT) on October 8. This means that the first aircraft should arrive over Christchurch some time on Saturday, October 10.

The British journal, “Aeroplane” of June 12 says that the pilots are required to report at the London airport at least seven days before the race is due to start. The aircraft will be on view to the public from Saturday, October 3; until the starting day. Several Canberras are entered in the race by the Royal Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force. It was a Canberra that broke the record from London to Darwin by covering 8608 i miles in 22 hours 21.8 seconds. It is not known what route the Can* berras will take on their way to New Zealand, a distance of almost 12,500 miles.

The Canberras may be beaten by the Vickers Valiant, a top-secret four-jet bomber, which has been entered by the Royal Air Force, the journal says. ‘
