Yorkshire, beaten by an innings by Australia in the third match of the tour, scored 252 for five wickets when it went in to bat on a soft pitch in a return match at Sheffield today. Keith Miller, captain of the Australian team for the first time, decided not to bat when he won the toss. DERBYSHIRE MATCH DRAWN

RAIN WASHES OUT LAST DAY’S PLAY

LONDON, June 19. Rain washed out the third and final day’s play between Australia and Derbyshire, and the match was drawn. Several inspections of the wicket were made before the captains disagreed. The umpires, after two inspections, decided that the pitch was unplayable. 6 Australia had made 197 and 146, and Derbyshire 69 and 17 for the loss of one wicket. Keith Miller will lead the Australians for the first time on the tour against Yorkshire at Sheffield tomorrow. Hassett and Morris are resting. The team is:—Miller, Lindwall, Johnston, Harvey, Craig, McDonald, Tallon, De Courcy, Ring, Hole, Hill, and Langley as twelfth man. RESULTS OF COUNTY MATCHES

LONDON, June 19. Rain today caused the abandonment of four county cricket matches. Results:— Middlesex 210 (Dooland seven for 85) and four for 63 declared beat Nottinghamshire nine for 138 declared (Young four for 42) and 115 (Titmus six for 46) by 20 runs.

Essex nine for 177 declared (Eric Bedser three for 11) and eight for 79 (Alec Bedser four for 31, including the hat trick) drew with Surrey nine for 228 declared (Constable 88).

Sussex 192 (Jenkins eight for 62) and nine for 168 declared (Jenkins seven for 60) beat Worcestershhe 'six for 195 *declared and six for 167 (Dewes not out 89) by four wickets.
