SOVIET WIVES OF U.S. CITIZENS
Kremlin Grants Four More Visas
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MOSCOW, June 18.
Russia has decided to grant exit visas to four more Russian wives of American citizens, the United States Embassy in Moscow announced today. This means that all the wives of Americans living in Moscow can now go to the United States. The American Ambassador (Mr Charles Bohlen) was summoned to a five minutes’ interview with the Soviet Foreign Minister (Mr Molotov) yesterday and told of the decision. The British authorities have repeatedly raised the issue of visas for the wives of Britons, but so far without success.
The granting of visas is hailed as a further step towards a settlement of outstanding Soviet-American questions by peaceful negotiation and is thought to brighten the prospects for possible Big Four Power talks on graver world issues.
