GUEST REGISTERS OF HOTELS
MAGISTRATE’S WARNING AT GREYMOUTH
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, June 20. Hotelkeepers were warned of the need to maintain and complete guest £ e S ster s by Mr Raymond Ferner, &.M., at the first annual meeting of the Westland Licensing Committee. The police report indicated that the conduct of the hotels in the district was satisfactory, he said. One matter the committee desired to bring to the notice of licensees, however, was that they should keep hotel registers. This had not been done in all cases, he said, emphasising the importance of compliance with the regulations. Action had been taken already against some offenders, and further proceedings would ensure results where registers were not kept or completed. The efficienct administration of the act depended to some extent on the keeping of a register, he said.
The committee was now calling upon licensees and owners to carry out required work by the date agreed upon and subject to the requirements of the Licensing Control Commission. The chairman reminded licenceholders and owners that there was power to suspend licences on the noncompletion by the due date of the work required.
There was another dictum of the commission requiring continual maintenance and improvements to provide comfort for patrons, this work to be carried out steadily without requiring requisitions from the committee. He pointed out that a further survey of the hotel situation on the West Coast could be made in some 10 years’ time and failure to meet the Commission’s wishes in this respect could lead to further cancellations.
