FRANCE’S SEARCH FOR PREMIER

Another Radical To Seek Office

(Rec. 8 p.m.) PARIS, June 13. The President of France (Mr Vincent Auriol) has asked Mr Andre Marie, the Radical leader, to try to form a cabinet. Mr Auriol received Mr Marie after a day of conferring with Parliamentary leaders. Mr Marie has held "the Justice portfolio in three governments since the war. He developed lung trouble while in the Buchenwald concentration camp. If he is successful, • he will be France’s nineteenth post-war Prime Minister. His election would end France’s most serious political crisis since the end of the war. Political observers say that Mr Marie will have one great asset when he seeks investiture—for France feels that the crisis has gone on far too long—but he would meet one drawback. The outgoing Prime Minister was a Radical and the Assembly has already refused investiture to another Radical, Mr Pierre Mendes-France.
