OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, June 12. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the tune of issue, ii:— Situation: a slow-moving depression is centred near the Chatham Islands, and a trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea is approaching New Zealand. Forecast; northerly winds, light at first, slowly freshening; weather cloudy, with rain in the Alps; moderate temperatures. Outlook for Sunday: cloudy. • WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the West Coast of the South Island:— Moderate variable winds, tending northerly; occasional drizzle and rain; moderate temperatures. Outlook for Sunday: unsettled. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and sunny, with a very light south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 51.6 degrees. At midnight the sky was cloudy, and a moderate east-north-east wind was blowing. The temperature was 46 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.531 inches (1900 millibars).
