BREAD ZONING
Sir—For how long must this system of bread zoning continue? The bread which we have delivered to us has lately been of poor standard. Our particular baker did not bake from Friday until Tuesday over the recent long weekend. Others did. His poor service and poojr quality are protected by this vicious zoning system. When again can we get our bread from the person offering the best quality, and the best service?—Yours, etc., rosebeSy s'treet. June 10. 1953. [When this letter was referred to him the secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Bakers and Pastrycooks (Mr G. R. Burrowes) said there was no zoning arrangement in existence in Christchurch, although in some cases it was not practicable for bakers to run long distances off their regular beats. The correspondent should inquire from bakers within reasonable distance of his home as to whether they were prepared to deliver bread in nis district.]
